Adolescent Mental Health Programs and Therapy

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) allows teens to receive comprehensive mental health treatment during the day, and return home for evenings and weekends. This program is best suited for teens who need intensive treatment, but don’t require 24-hour supervision.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

CFT’s Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program (IOP) provides concentrated, group-based care that helps adolescents make accelerated treatment gains while they continue to attend school and engage with the important people in their lives. Teens in this program need a higher level of care than weekly individual therapy sessions, but less structure and support than an all-day or inpatient program.

The Adolescent Mental Health Crisis: We’re in this with you.

The adolescent mental health crisis is intensifying, with more teens experiencing severe issues like anxiety, depression, and self-harm at alarming rates. Pressures from academic performance, social media’s damaging effects on self-esteem, and increasing social isolation are all contributing to this surge. U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy called this an “urgent public health crisis,” stressing the immediate need for more accessible mental health services. Yet, due to a significant shortage of pediatric mental health professionals, many families face long delays in accessing care. At Center for Teens, we work to close this gap by providing both intensive treatment for teens in crisis and preventive care to help them build emotional resilience

Whether you’re a parent urgently seeking help for your child or a professional looking to refer a client, Center for Teens is committed to offering evidence-based, compassionate care tailored to meet the needs of adolescents at every stage of their mental health journey.

Mental Health Crisis Report

Mental Health Symptoms

A 2023 report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) highlighted that more than 40% of high school students reported persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness during the previous year. This percentage marks a continued increase from previous years, indicating that the mental health crisis among teens is ongoing and worsening.

Suicide Attempts

A 2023 report by The Trevor Project found that 45% of LGBTQ+ teens seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year, with 14% attempting suicide. LGBTQ+ youth are more than four times as likely to attempt suicide compared to their heterosexual peers, highlighting the severe mental health challenges faced by this group due to stigma, discrimination, and lack of support.

Suicide Rates

Data from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) shows that in Harris County, suicide was the second leading cause of death among adolescents aged 15-19 in 2021. The suicide rate among this age group has increased by nearly 40% over the past decade.

Mental Health Access

A 2023 survey by the Houston Behavioral Health and Suicide Prevention Task Force found that nearly 60% of adolescents in Houston who needed mental health care did not receive it. This is due to various barriers, including cost, stigma, and a shortage of mental health professionals in the area.
