Understanding the Intensive Outpatient Program
Center for Teens’ Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a group-based, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) – aligned program for adolescents who are navigating significant mental health challenges. Teens admitted to this program don’t require the full-time or all day care and supervision of an inpatient facility, but need more intensive treatment than traditional weekly therapy. Most teens are able to attend school while enrolled in our IOP. Teens enrolled in our IOP receive 10-12 hours of treatment per week, including group therapy and skills training.
Additionally, they attend at least one individual therapy session per week. One thing that sets our IOP apart is how we value and involve families. Parents or guardians attend a family session and/ or a multifamily group session every week. This program provides a structured and supportive environment where adolescents can receive the help they need while continuing to live at home, attend school, and engage in their daily routines.

IOP Program Structure and Frequency
Our IOP is designed to provide consistent support while allowing teens to maintain their daily routines. The program structure is carefully crafted to ensure that participants receive the right amount of care without overwhelming their schedules. This balance is crucial for teens who are transitioning from more intensive care or need ongoing support while continuing their education and home life.
Teens attend therapy sessions for two hours each day, five days a week. This consistent schedule helps establish a routine and provides regular support.
The program totals ten to twelve hours of therapy per week, combining individual, group, and family sessions to address various aspects of mental health and recovery.
Family therapy sessions are conducted once per week, ensuring that the teen’s support system is actively involved in the recovery process.
